Bristol Bay Regional Career & Technical Education Consortium

  • The vision of the BBRCTE program is to pro- vide a working model for delivery of CTE in- struction to students within three of the school districts in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska. As individual districts, we lack the capacity to pro- vide robust CTE opportunities for students by ourselves, but through collaboration between districts and regional organizations, our shared resources make it possible to expose and de- velop rigorous CTE pathways for all students in the region. The courses and pathways are based on regional and state labor markets and stakeholder input, and provide opportunities for continued education in a post-secondary program, apprenticeship, or employment. A critical component is the desire and willingness to partner, not only with other school districts, but to partner with local and regional organiza- tions that, together, can build a program that provides industry recognized certifications, the potential for occupational endorsements, and a number of dual credit opportunities. The program doesn’t just focus on the technical skills, but also on developing the “soft skills” necessary to be successful in the workplace, which continues to be identified as a need by industries around the region and state.
